Bent, Not Broken: Finding Resilience in Your Storm

Hey family,
I want you to know something today: You're still here. And that matters more than you realize.
I've been thinking about palm trees lately. You know how they survive hurricanes? They don't resist the wind, they bend with it. Their roots run deep, and their trunks flex. They look defeated in the storm, bent nearly horizontal sometimes. But when the winds pass? They rise back up.
That's you right now.
I know this season feels heavy. Maybe you're bent low by financial pressure, relationship pain, health concerns, or dreams that feel delayed. Maybe you're tired of being strong. Maybe you feel more broken than bent.
But here's what I need you to hear as both your sister in Christ and as a psychologist: Resilience isn't about never breaking down. It's about getting back up one more time than you fall.
The Bible says it this way: "We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed" (2 Corinthians 4:8-9).
Bent, but not broken. Pressed, but not crushed. Still standing, even if barely.
That's resilience, beloved. And you already have it in you.
Reflection Prompts for This Week:
1. What has this season of adversity revealed about your strength? (Even small things count, like getting out of bed, showing up, or asking for help.)
2. Where have you seen God's faithfulness, even in the smallest ways? (A timely phone call, an unexpected provision, a moment of peace?)
3. What's one thing you can do today to care for yourself, body, mind, or spirit? (Rest is resistance when the world demands you keep breaking yourself.)
You're not alone in this. Your roots run deeper than you know. And the God who holds the wind holds you too.
Keep bending. Keep believing. Keep becoming.
You're going to rise again.
With love and hope,
Dr. E
